Rafaela Perera was never allowed to watch television as a child. This is possibly the reason why she is completely obsessed with it. Her other obsession is words.
Having carved out a career working as a copywriter in Australian ad agency BADJAR Ogilvy, Rafaela left Melbourne to go travelling with no definite plan other than to work on her tan. Instead, she wound up working in television and launching what she believes to be one of the best products ever invented – Sky +.
Needless to say, Rafaela found it impossible to return to Melbourne or advertising for that matter. She spent a decade at BSKYB leading the multi-award winning creative teams for Sky One and Sky Atlantic before taking a short break to have a baby. After returning from maternity leave, Rafaela decided to set out for new creative pastures which included working on the hugely successful ITV re-brand, writing a comedy drama and doing a stint as Creative Director at Comedy Central.
Rafaela is currently the Executive Creative Director at BBC Worldwide, running a creative team of over 60 and overseeing all of the BBC’s global channels and end to end marketing campaigns. She gets to watch a lot of very good television.
